ABERDEEN, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – In a season where the Aberdeen Smittys have struggled with ‘one bad inning’ on defense, they flipped the script on senior night against Redfield Clay Kiser, en route to a 14-4 win.
Head Coach Josh Steinwandt joined David Tukesbrey & Matt McClure a few weeks back on “The Sports Hub” on Fox Sports Aberdeen & detailed the Achilles heel for the Smittys in ’26 has been struggling in at least one inning in many of their losses. On Wednesday night, the Smittys put up nine runs before three runs were recorded by Redfield and it allowed Aberdeen to play with a healthy lead & provide breathing room over the course of the hot night in the Hub City.
Hurler Jackson Post earned the win for Aberdeen; he went one and a third innings and surrendered just one hit, walked a pair and fanned three batters. His offense helped him out greatly, Michael Dutenhoffer was dialed in at the dish; going 3-4 with a pair of runs scored and he drove in four. Benny Eisenbeisz and Jackson Post each drove in a pair of runs in the 10-run victory.
Redfield chipped away at the nine run deficit as they trailed 9-4 going into the top of the fifth, but that’s as close as they would get. The Smittys put the game on ice, adding a five spot in the bottom of the frame and ending the contest.
Prior to the game, the Smittys honored their senior class & the 2026 Bryce Anglin Senior award was awarded to Michael Dutenhoffer; after this summer, he’ll be traveling up HWY-281 to Jamestown to play ball for the Jimmies in the NSIC. Head Coach Josh Steinwandt said, “He’s been an incredible part of our program, not just because of the player he is, but because of the person he is. He’s one of the hardest workers on the team & somebody that his teammates can always count on.”
The Smittys return to action on Thursday afternoon at Fossum Field as they’ll take on Spearfish Post 164 for a doubleheader at noon & 2p.
