YANKTON, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – The Aberdeen Smittys are on the brink of elimination.
Wednesday night saw the Aberdeen Smittys put their three game winning streak to the test against the #3 seed (in the class A legion baseball playoffs) the Yankton Post 12 squad & the host program made quick work of the evening. Yankton defeated Aberdeen 10-0 in five innings in the first game of the best two-out-of-three series.
Aberdeen’s offense was stifled for the night, only mustering up a pair of hits; Michael Dutenhoffer hit a double and Karson Borge singled. The Smittys batters did draw a pair of walks, but none of those four base runners on the night were able to advance all the way home.
Yankton led early 1-0 after the first inning, tacked on three runs in each the second and third innings and enjoyed a comfortable 7-0 lead after three & for good measure added two more in the fourth & another in the fifth, for the run rule victory.
Benny Eisenbeisz took the loss on the hill, he went four innings, scattered six hits, nine runs, six of them earned & walked three. Beck Ryken picked up the win for Post 12. Ryken struck out four Smittys batters over his five innings of work and surrendered those two hits & a pair of walks.
Aberdeen now faces an elimination game on Thursday afternoon at noon; should the Smittys win that game, a winner-take-all game three will be played immediately following game two. The winner of the series will travel west to Rapid City for the state tournament.
