HURON, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – After dropping an extra innings affair to Groton Post 39 on Monday, the Aberdeen Smittys responded on Tuesday evening with a 16-1 drubbing of Huron Post 7, before falling in game two of the doubleheader 6-5.

In the first game of the twinbill, the Smittys cranked out 20 hits in the 16-1, five inning romp. Aberdeen put up at least one run in every single inning and put up a crooked number nine in the top of the fourth inning. It was just another banner day at the office for Cooper Eisenbeisz as he went 4-5, two doubles + a pair of runs scored & four runs knocked in. His teammate Casey Vining went 3-4 with a run scored & also plated four.

Donnie Soderlund went 2-3 with three RBI + the Smittys got an RBI each from Drew Salfrank, Talan Dutenhoeffer and Joran Foss.

In game two, the Smittys were just three outs away from breaking out the brooms for the sweep, but couldn’t close the deal in the seventh, falling 6-5. Zane Backous went 1-3 w/ 2RBI + Casey Vining went 1-3 with a run knocked in. Joran Foss picked up the no decision; going four innings and scattering six hits & surrendering one earned run, while striking out two.

With the Tuesday split, the Smittys are now 26-12 and enter the Gopher Classic this upcoming weekend with five games in three days. They’ll take on Creighton Prep FBP at 11:30am & then battle LaCrescent at 2pm.
