ABERDEEN, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – In a season where the Aberdeen Smittys have put up double digit runs twenty four times, on Friday at Fossum Field, they picked up two low scoring victories. Winning game one, 1-0 & then clipping Spearfish 5-3 in game two.

In a pitchers dual, Grant Beyer pitched an absolute gem in the first game. He pitched the complete game, going seven innings and only surrendered a pair of hits, while striking out four and only throwing 66 pitches, 52 of them strikes. At one point in the game, he had retired 19 consecutive batters. Head Coach Nathan Gonnelly was pleased with his performance on the hill, “It just comes down to pitching, Beyer went out there and pitched a gem…and our defense was right behind him, too.”

The Smittys offense mustered only five hits, but it was enough with Beyers’ performance. In the bottom of the sixth, with Drew Salfrank in scoring position on second base (after stealing second), Cooper Eisenbeisz stepped up to the plate and laced a single into left field & Salfrank stepped on home for the go-ahead and eventual game winning run.

In the second contest, the Smittys trailed 3-1 going into the fourth, but then the offense exploded for a four spot in the bottom of the frame & Jackson Welke would do the rest in long form relief on the hill; going four innings and only surrendering two hits and fanning a batter.

Brendan Livermont ripped a two run single in game two; the Smittys also got RBI performances from Phillip Zens, Casey Vining and Talan Dutenhoeffer. With the doubleheader sweep of Spearfish, the Smittys upped their record to 31-15 & will take on Harrisburg Gold for a twinbill on Sunday at 1 & 3p.
