ABERDEEN, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – The win streak has reached 12 games (and counting…)

On Friday, the Aberdeen Smittys found themselves in their first dog fight in over a week and a half, but still found a way to get the job done against Rapid City Post 320, winning game one 10-6 & then a more dominant win in game two, 12-3.

In the first game of the twinbill, the Smittys got off to a hot start, putting up a crooked number six in the bottom half of the first frame & it looked like it’d be another ‘breeze’ of a day at the ballpark. But this time, the Rapid squad chipped away at their deficit and held the Smittys offense down, at least for two innings. Post 320 put up one in the second (after one in the first) and then tallied four in the fourth inning to tie up the game. Facing the first bit of adversity in quite some time, the Aberdeen Smittys responded with a four spot of their own, to take a 10-6 lead & a lead that’d stand up over the final three innings.

Jaxon Ladner picked up the win, pitching three innings and only surrendering one hit and striking out two. On offense, another balanced attack was the case for the Smittys; Jackson Welke was 2-2 with a run scored & he drove in two. Aberdeen also got one-RBI performances from: Phillip Zens, Casey Vining, Brendan Livermont, Joran Foss & Grant Beyer.

In the second game, it was more of a “Smittys-esc” performance. Aberdeen hurler Casey Vining went a complete game and he let the defense behind him do a lot of the work. No errors were committed in the field and Vining scattered seven hits over seven innings and struck out two. He helped his cause at the plate, going 3-5 with two runs scored & an RBI. Zane Backout was 2-2 with a run scored and he drove in two, as well. Talan Dutenhoeffer got into the act with a 1-2 performance with two runs scored & two RBI.

Aberdeen led 4-0 through three innings and didn’t surrender a run until the fifth & then eventually the Smittys offense put the game out of reach with a crooked number seven in the bottom of the sixth.

The Smittys will enjoy a few days of rest, before returning to the diamond on Wednesday to take on Post 15 for a twinbill at Fossum Field at 3 & 5p. The doubleheader will be broadcast on HubCityRadio.com.
