Snowfall figures for the state for the season

PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- South Dakotans have moved a lot of snow this season. In some places, it’s been more than double the yearly average.

Around the Pierre and Fort Pierre area, National Weather Service Meteorologist Scott Doering (door-ring) says it’s been a winter for the record books.

Doering says the Lead area has gotten over 150 inches (12+ feet) of snow since Oct. 1, 2022.

He says current total snowfall amounts are also high in other parts of South Dakota.

Aberdeen had 73.9 inches for the season which was the ninth snowiest season on record.

Doering says the large snowfall amounts this season are causing concern about potential flooding along the Big Sioux, James and Vermillion rivers.
