CONDE, S.D. (WNAX) – U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says he intends to raise the payment cap limits on coronavirus relief funds going out to farmers and ranchers. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says what’s more important is that the Federal government releases rules attached to those government funds.
He says while it’s understandable that the relief money needs to get out quickly, it’s paramount that the rules don’t get changed midstream.
Sombke says what’s more concerning than raising the relief payment limits is making sure Congress has proper oversight and it’s not in the hands of one person, this being the Ag Secretary.
Sombke says it’s not only farmers that need to know what the rules of the relief payments are, it’s also the bankers who in many cases need to know as well.
