PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- A group of South Dakota lawmakers serving on the 2021 Redistricting Committee attending a three-day conference on the process last week in Salt Lake City, Utah. District 24 Senator Mary Duvall is a chair of the Committee and says the meetings were educational.
Duvall says a great deal of time was spent on minority voter rights.
Raw Census data will become available on August 16th and Duvall says the Redistricting Committee will have lots to do.
Duvall says its practical to check the current districts to see how far they deviate from the desired size for a legislative district to determine how much change each district will require while keeping in mind minority voting rights and the larger population areas around Sioux Falls and Rapid City.
