South Dakota Board of Education Standards approve rules dealing with student teachers

VERMILLION, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota Board of Education Standards approved a rule allowing school districts to pay student teachers and make them teachers of record if needed to meet certain standards.

Vermillion School Superintendent Damon Alvey says they aren’t moving in that direction.

Alvey says school districts are meeting to decide on how best to use student teachers.

Alvey says it gives small districts another option to fill teaching positions.

Most student teachers are in a school district for one or two semesters.
