PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota House Appropriations Committee killed, at least for now, Governor Kristi Noem’s food tax cut bill.
The panel also killed a property tax credit plan, while approving a small cut in the overall state sales tax.
Dave Owen, President of the state Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a long time observer of the legislature, said the committee was sending a message.
Owen says the Governor isn’t through with the bill.
Owen says there appears to be some miscommunication.
Noem later told reporters that she would keep working on the tax cut and that lawmakers made the “wrong” decision.
