PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The Capitol Complex Restoration and Beautification Commission has endorsed the replacement of a 176 foot fence near the Dolly Reed Building along Capital Avenue in Pierre. Stacey Watters with the Office of the State Engineer says the fence has damage they’d like to address.
Watters says the base along parts of the fence have rusted out. The fence is connected to the bridge over Capitol Creek just off the right field corner of Hyde Stadium. Watters says they’d like to replace it with a similar fence to the one around the Governor’s mansion.
Finials are a design element that the end of vertical fence bars, generally in a pointed configuration. The low finials idea brought concern from Commission members like Pierre Mayor Steve Harding.
Watters says the fence will be powder coated and not painted to avoid any possible issues with paint flaking. No concrete will be in need of replacing for the project.
