PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- As a summer study committee of the South Dakota legislature started it’s work last week on artificial intelligence and access to the Internet by minors, the impact of smart phones and education moved into the conversation. South Dakota Department of Education Secretary Dr. Joe Graves says teachers across the state are seeing negative results from student access to smart phones at school.
Graves says there is a multitude of research showing the effects of smart phone usage by youth extends beyond the classroom.
Graves would like to see significant restrictions on access to smart phones for youth.
The Study Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Regulation of Internet Access by Minors is also looking at preventing minors from accessing harmful material, like pornography while using the Internet.
