South Dakota Farmers Union hosted their forum at the Brown County Fair Saturday

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Saturday, the South Dakota Farmers Union held their forum at the Brown County Fair.  The theme of the forum was updating what’s been happening out in Washington.  The feature speaker this year was the National Farmers Union President Rob LaRew.

LaRew provide an update on the upcoming Farm Bill.

The One Big Beautiful Bill was passed that addressed such things as crop insurance and SNAP.  LaRew expressed concerns with those items passed, that it may have a negative impact on the next Farm Bill.

Deadline for now on the current Farm Bill is September 30th barring any extensions.  LaRew is worried that the bill won’t be done by then.

National Farmers Union hopes that MCOOL(Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling) can be included in the bill.

LaRew addressed concerns about what the cost for farmers and ranchers to perform their tasks today.

LaRew told the public that the Farmers Union are continue to push E15 fuel to be sold year round.

Back in April, the National Farmers Union hosted their annual event in Oklahoma City.  One thing that they were promoting was renewable energy.  LaRew was asked to update how that’s going in 2025.
