PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- You’ll see far more Highway Patrol troopers on South Dakota Highways this Memorial Day weekend. Major Rob Weinmeister with the Highway Patrol says Memorial Day tends to bring extra travelers to the state’s roads.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol will be engaged in two enforcement efforts over the holiday.
Troopers have been pulling over a number of drivers for speeds around or over 100 miles an hour. Weinmeister isn’t sure where the need for speed is coming from and it’s not unique to South Dakota.
Memorial Day weekend 2020 saw 116 crashes involving two deaths and 30 injuries. Motor vehicle crashes in South Dakota are up this year, compared to 2020.
