PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota House debated for almost 90 minutes on Monday on SB245. The bill create the homeowner property tax reduction fund, and to transfer moneys to the homeowner property tax reduction fund.
The fund would come from the projected $110 million that the state will see once the State Sales Tax goes from 4.2% to 4.5% once the sunset is lifted in July 2027. There was an amendment to cap the fund at $60 million however that was defeated.
Both legislators representing District 3 which is the city of Aberdeen spoke on the bill.
Representative Brandei Schaefbauer spoke against the bill. She wasn’t concern about how this would impact those that are labeled rich in South Dakota.
Her biggest issue is that no legislator called for a cut in spending on any level of government.
Schaefbauer told the legislators that it should be up to the citizens to determine how they want to spend their money.

The South Dakota House voted 42-27 in favor of SB245. The bill was amended so it has to go back to the Senate.
