PIERRE, S.D.(SDBA)- The House State Affairs Committee voted 7-6 Wednesday to advance House Bill 1066.
It would require voters to prove they live in South Dakota.
Supporters of the measure say the state’s residency requirements are lax.
Republican Senator John Carley from Piedmont.
However, opponents of the measure say not so fast.
The bill could disenfranchise legitimate votes.

The measure now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration.
There are similar bills sponsored by the Secretary of State’s Office that are also pending in the Senate.
