South Dakota leaders release statements following President Biden’s State of the Union

WASHINGTON, D.C. & PIERRE, S.D.(Press Releases)- President Joe Biden delivered his State of the Union Thursday night in front of a joint session of Congress.

South Dakota leaders delivered the following statements after the speech.

Congressman Dusty Johnson:

President Biden gave the State of the Union address last night.  In it, he criticized his likely opponent in the November election, Donald Trump; talked about abortion rights; taxes and the economy; and Russia and Ukraine.  South Dakota Representative Dusty Johnson called the speech divisive.

He said the president glossed over one of the most crucial issues in the country – border security.

Senator John Thune:

Senator Mike Rounds tweeted out the following:

“President Biden is calling for ‘unification’ in the most divisive way possible. His vision for America is not the path our country should be on. It’s time to return conservative values to the White House.”

After the Republican response by Alabama Senator Katie Britt, Rounds praised her and tweeted the following:\

“President Biden’s policies have been hurting our country for over 3 years. Senate Republicans are ready to get this country back on track.”

Senator Rounds also did a series of fact checks on twitter page throughout the speech.

Governor Kristi Noem sent a series of tweets throughout the speech:

“30 minutes in, and Biden hasn’t mentioned the border once. He’s attacked his opponent 6 times. How many illegals have crossed since this speech started?”

“This is a political speech — it’s divisive. Joe Biden is not a leader. People can’t buy groceries or pay their gas bills, but here he is dividing Americans against each other. Where is the hope? Where are the solutions?”

“You’re standing up to China by… having your campaign join TikTok? Whatever, Joe.”

“Biden has no ideas, no innovation — just more government. More taxes, more spending, more programs. We all know by now we can never look to Washington to solve our problems.”
