WEBSTER, S.D.(Press Release) – A group of approximately 80 municipal officials representing nearly a dozen cities gathered at the South Dakota Municipal League’s annual District 1 Meeting, held in Webster on March 26.

Leland Treichel, SDML President and Board President of Roscoe, discussed the strengths of the Municipal League with the group. Sara Rankin, South Dakota Municipal League Executive Director, spoke about the outcome of the 2026 Legislative Session and the effect new laws will have on South Dakota municipalities.

A short presentation took place regarding local newspapers and open meeting laws relating to local governments.

Treichel also conducted the election of District 1 officers for the upcoming year. Mike Grosek, Webster Mayor, was re-elected Chair and Terry Jaspers, Sisseton Mayor, was re-elected Vice Chair. As the district chair, Grosek will act as a contact for and represent their district as a member of the SDML Board of Directors. Duties began immediately.

In other business, those attending voted to hold the 2027 District 1 Meeting in Webster.
