RAPID CITY, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota Republican Party Convention was held Thursday through Saturday in Rapid City.
On Saturday, the convention selected their candidates for the state office positions.
Public Utilities Commission:
Don Haggar 55% Peri Pourier 45%
Haggar advanced to the November elections against Democrat Frank Kloucek
State Treasurer:
Melissa Hull 81.25% Heath Shields 17.75%
Hull advanced to the November elections against Democrat Margaret Kuipers
State Auditor:
Catherine Barranco 53% Renae Rohall 25% Tamara Grove 21%
Barrance advanced to the November elections against Democrat Tom Cool
School and Public Lands:
Brock Greenfield 81% James Biolata 18%
Greenfield advanced to the November election against Democrat Raeann Mettler
South Dakota Secretary of State:
Heather Baxter 59% Secretary Monae Johnson 40%
Baxter advanced to the November election against Democrat Terrance Davis and Libertarian Tamara Lesnar.
South Dakota Attorney General:
This election needed two rounds to get to the minimum 50% to advance.
In the second round Lance Russell 57% Austin Hoffman 31% John Fitzgerald 12%
Russell is unopposed in the November elections.
Other highlights include on Thursday, Senator Thune spoke and an online influencer(Scott Presler) was denied access that night. Presler has been pushing for the Save American Act to pass the U.S. Senate for the last six months. He’s threatened to have Senator Thune primaried in 2028 if the bill is not passed. SDGOP Chairman Jim Eschenbaum apologized for the misunderstanding. The Sargent of Arms Matt Bruner was relieved of his duties.
On Friday the delegates debated a resolution looking to censure Senator John Thune for not passing the Save America Act. On a voice vote here’ how it went:

The two candidates running in the Governor’s race, Governor Larry Rhoden and Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden gave fifteen minutes speeches talking why they should be the next governor of the state.
