South Dakota Senate Commerce Committee defer HB1133 to the 41st day

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)-  The South Dakota Senate Commerce Committee heard testimony on HB1133.  HB1133 deals with the definition of a commodity.

After hearing testimonies both for & against the bill, legislators on the committee offered their comments on the bill.

Senator Majority Leader Casey Crabtree of Madison motioned to send it to the 41st day.  Crabtree wanted to take the emotions out of the decision making process.

Senator Steve Kolbeck of Brandon discuss the fact that he didn’t believe the legislature should be judging this matter.

President Pro Temp Lee Schoenbeck of Watertown opposed it because he felt like this was changing the rules.

Senate Minority Leader Reynold Nesiba of Sioux Falls opposed it because of his support for the ethanol industry.

The committee voted 9-0 to refer this to the 41st day effectively killing the bill.
