South Dakota Senate passes HB1244(Allow those who sign petitions to remove name from it)

PIERRE, S.D.(KELO)- A bill dealing with petition signatures needs only Governor Noem’s signature to become law.

The state senate passed a bill allowing people to remove their signatures from a petition if they believe they were misled by petition circulators to sign.

It passed over the objections of Sioux Falls Senator Reynold Nesiba.

Bill Sponsor Al Novstrup (NOHV-strup) says it’s designed to crack down on coercion and misrepresentation in the petition process.

Governor Noem is expected to sign the measure.

If she does, a lawsuit is expected to challenge it.
