South Dakota Senate voted to censure Senator Julie Frye-Mueller

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Wednesday, The South Dakota Senate voted to censure Senator Julie Frye-Mueller for her conduct involving a LRC staff member.

Senator David Wheeler was chair of the Senate Committee on Discipline & Expulson.  Wheeler commented on the constitutionality of this matter.

Wheeler talked about how credible the LRC staffer was that filed the complaint.

Wheeler delivered the recommendation that the committee offered.

One senator was opposed to the recommendations.  Senator Tom Pischke offered his reasons why.  Pischke talks about the constitution doesn’t give the right to suspend.

Pischke also discuss how state law protect the legislators.

Pischke felt Senator Frye-Mueller wasn’t given due process.

Pischke feel the report didn’t reach the level of Senator Frye-Mueller being censured.

The South Dakota Senate voted 33-1 to censure Frye-Mueller.  Frye-Mueller must see the director of the LRC to work with them going forward.  Frye-Mueller does now have her voting rights back.
