Staff and families trying to help elderly deal with isolation

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – As the state begins the process of testing all nursing home and assisted living center residents, it points out the isolation many have been under for weeks due to the pandemic.

Doug Ekeren, President of Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, says it is a difficult situation.

Ekeren says they are using technology to help families stay in touch.

Ekeren says staff and families have been creative in trying to break the isolation.

Ekeren is also chair of the state Long Term Care Advisory task force.
