SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- A dramatic armed standoff in Sioux Falls ended peacefully shortly after 1 Thursday morning.
The violent crimes unit saw a 19-year old Sioux Falls man wanted in connection with two vehicles stolen in the past week at about 6:30 Wednesday night.
They followed him to the 10th and Kiwanis area where he entered a parking lot, where police boxed him in.
Information officer Sam Clemens says the man then jumped into the back of the vehicle…which is when things became volatile.
The standoff lasted for several hours, and began to wind down at about midnight.
When the man surrendered, Clemens says the man’s handgun went off and he shot himself in the foot.
He’s still being treated, but faces a slew of charges when he’s released.
