PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The craftiness of some Stanley County 3rd graders will be on display in a very national way…in Washington D-C. Stanley County Elementary was selected to represent South Dakota with the creation of ornaments for the National Christmas Tree Celebration. Teacher Kristie Maher says her students were excited about being selected.
Maher says the students decorated ornaments with South Dakota animals and used a South Dakota artist for inspiration.
Maher says she had almost as much fun as her students with the project.
Not all of Maher’s students will have ornaments on a tree, but plans are in the works to find a tree so that every student has the chance to have art displayed on a tree. Photos of the ornaments sent to Washington D.C. will be posted to the National Park Services website.
