State adds 36 more COVID deaths; active cases decrease

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state experienced 36 more COVID-related deaths, while active cases dropped by more than 600 and hospitalizations went up two according to figures released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The deaths (two of which occurred in Brown County and one in Day County), moved the state’s overall death total to 1,147.

South Dakota had 985 new confirmed cases and 1,584 recoveries, lowering the amount of active infections to 16,148. There are currently 501 people hospitalized in association with the virus.

Locally, Brown County had 47 new confirmed cases and 61 recoveries, lowering the active cases to 682. The county has had 3,962 confirmed cases and 3,248 recoveries. There have been 32 COVID-related deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 22,291 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 9,608, and Lincoln County with 5,886. Other counties totals include Codington with 2,988, Brookings with 2,642, Davison with 2,530, Beadle with 2,396, Lawrence with 2,260, Yankton with 2,124, and Meade with 1,951.
