State adds to record COVID totals, nine new deaths reported

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state’s record setting active COVID-19 totals and hospitalizations continued to rise and there were nine new deaths according to figures released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. Two of the deaths according in Walworth County and another was in Campbell County. Codington County also had two deaths. The others were in Brookings, Lake, Minnehaha and Oglala Lakota counties.

South Dakota reported 1,095 new cases and 516 new recoveries, pushing the amount of active infections to 11,933. There are currently 412 people hospitalized in connection with the virus.

So far, the state has had 40,589 confirmed cases and 29,683 recoveries. The death toll stands at 384.

Locally, Brown County had 31 new cases and 29 new recoveries, moving the amount of active cases to 386. In all, the county has had 2,014 confirmed cases and 1,624 recoveries. There have been four COVID-related deaths, and there are currently 19 people hospitalized because of the virus.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 11,281 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 4,381, and Lincoln County with 2,759. Other counties totals include Codington with 1,479, Brookings with 1,426, Beadle with 1,244, Meade with 944, Bon Homme with 920, Davison with 915, and Oglala Lakota with 907.
