State ends up with better finish to fiscal year than expected

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – The State of South Dakota ended the fiscal year on June 30 with a $19-million surplus, despite a fall in sales taxes.

Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says it was a better end then she expected.

Hunhoff, a member of the budget writing Appropriations Committee, says state agencies and departments didn’t spend all the money they asked for.

Hunhoff says she wants more information on the differences between dollars budgeted and what was actually spent.

The Appropriations Committee meets again today to get an update on the end of the budget year.
