SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- South Dakota is about in the middle when it comes to the rate of coronavirus cases in the region.

State epidemiologist Josh Clayton.

Clayton says it is possible that children 5 to 11 could be eligible for the coronavirus vaccine by Halloween.

However, he says there are still a number of steps.

Clayton wants to make sure the vaccines will be safe for children ages 5-11.

Clayton says the FDA and CDC also would need to approve the vaccine for kids.
