PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- There was a roadeo in Pierre Wednesday afternoon, but this one involved snowplow drivers, plows and orange construction zone markers rather than cowboys, cowgirls, horses and bulls.
Jason Humphrey is a Pierre Region Engineer for the South Dakota Department of Transportation. He says the State Finals Snowfighter Roadeo is a fun competition that also gets the state’s snowplow drivers thinking about the winter season ahead.
Humphrey says with barely inches of room for the snowplows to move between some of the markers, it’s a challenging course.
Humphrey says, in his opinion, South Dakota’s snowfighter team is the best in the country.
This year’s SDDOT State Finals Snowfighter Roadeo is Nathan Loecker from the Yankton area. He scored 1700 out of a possible 2000 points. Second place came from the Watertown area and 3rd place from the Sioux Falls area.
