State has four new COVID-related deaths, active cases up slightly

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – South Dakota had four new COVID-related deaths and the amount of active infections increased by 22, according to numbers released by the State Department of Health today. The deaths, which include residents in Bennett County, Clay County, Corson County and Minnehaha County, brought the state’s overall death total to 177.

South Dakota also had 263 new confirmed cases of the virus, along with 237 new recoveries, pushing the amount of active cases to 2,456 (there were 3,013 one week ago). So far, the state has had 15,834 confirmed cases, and 13,201 recoveries. There are currently 83 people hospitalized in connection with the virus.

Locally, Brown County had 23 new cases and 13 new recoveries, moving the amount of active infections to 174. So far, the county has had 871 confirmed cases, 694 recoveries, and three total deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 5,689 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 1,701, and Lincoln County with 1,030. Other county totals include Beadle with 656, Brookings with 556, Codington with 516, and Clay with 483.
