PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – COVID-19 cases spiked in South Dakota according to numbers from the state department of health today. The state had 193 new confirmed cases, the third highest single day total since the virus began and the most since early May. It also had two new deaths.
The new cases, along with 84 recoveries, pushed the state’s active infections to 1,376 (there were 1,101 one week ago). The state also has 159 deaths. Overall, South Dakota has had 10,884 confirmed cases and 9,349 recoveries. There are currently 50 people hospitalized because of the virus.
Locally, Brown County also saw a surge with 18 new confirmed cases. There were also six new recoveries, leaving the number of active infections at 71. In all, the county has had 521 confirmed cases, 447 recoveries and three deaths.
Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 4,819 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 994, Lincoln County with 768, and Beadle County with 605. Codington County continues to see an increase and is now up to 195 confirmed cases.
