State has three more cases of coronavirus

PIERRE, S.D. (DRG News) – Three more cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) have been confirmed in South Dakota, but none were in the central part of the state.

Counties reporting cases are Beadle, Charles Mix, Davison, Pennington, Bon Homme and three cases in Minnehaha. Eleven tests are pending and 27 others came back negative.

Gov. Kristi Noem says the Department of Health has launched the website COVID.SD.GOV to provide residents with updated information.

All three of the new cases were found in males and they are resting at home.

Noem says health officials expect more cases to show up, but others may go undiagnosed.

As a precaution, Special Olympics South Dakota canceled its State Basketball Tournament this weekend in Pierre, but the South Dakota High School Activities Association state tournaments this weekend and next are still on– at this point. Noem says the state is providing guidance, but allowing organizers of these—and other events– to make their own decisions.

Two of the new COVID-19 cases are travel related. Information on the third is still being collected.

Again, the state Health Department has launched a website with COVID-19 information, including number of cases found in the state, at www.covid.sd.gov.
