State Highway Projects Behind Schedule

Yankton, SD (WNAX) – The long cold wet winter and spring has put highway construction behind schedule.

South Dakota Department of Transportation Secretary Darin Bergquist says they have lots of projects trying to catch up.

Bergquist says they have their full federal funding for this year.

The state will get about three hundred million dollars from this year’s federal budget.

Bergquist says the highway funding program has to be renewed later this year.

The department estimates it costs about two million dollars a mile to rebuild a two-lane concrete highway.
