PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – At one point, the South Dakota Department of Health was projecting up to 130,000 people in the state would be infected with the coronavirus and that would push hospital use to a critical level.
State Epidemiologist Dr. Josh Clayton says that was based on a “worst case” model.
Clayton says they now expect to see more localized surges in infections.
Clayton says they don’t plan to update the infection modeling.
The state has had just under 6,000 infections so far, with 75 deaths.
