State reaches record totals for active cases, hospitalizations

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state’s number of active COVID-19 infections surpassed the 11,000-mark for the first time since the pandemic began. The South Dakota Department of Health reported 525 new cases and 78 new recoveries, increasing the amount of active cases to 11,061 (there were 8,388 one week ago). There were no new deaths, leaving the COVID-related death total at 375.

The state reported 11 new COVID-related hospitalizations, raising the amount of current hospitalizations to a record total of 377.

So far, the state has had 38,504 confirmed cases and 28,305 recoveries.

Locally, Brown County had 19 new cases and 10 new recoveries, increasing the amount of active infections to 407. The county has had 1,960 total cases and 1,555 recoveries. There have been four total COVID-related deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha has had 10,492 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 4,183, and Lincoln County with 2,623. Other counties totals include Codington with 1,432, Brookings with 1,390, Beadle with 1,210, Meade with 906, Davison with 863, and Oglala Lakota with 855.
