State reports three new COVID deaths; active cases continue to drop

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The Department of Health reported three new deaths today as active cases of COVID-19 continue to drop.

Two of the deaths occurred in Pennington County and the other was in Jackson County. That brings that state’s death total to 81.

South Dakota had 49 new cases to go along with 57 recoveries, lowering the number of active cases to 801. (The total of active cases was 913 a week ago).

The state has had 6,158 confirmed cases, 5,276 recoveries, and 65,035 negative tests. There are currently 95 hospitalizations.

Brown County reported two new confirmed cases and two new recoveries, leaving the number of active cases at 23. The county has had 321 total confirmed cases, 296 recoveries, 2,419 negative tests and two deaths. Of the 156 cases associated with the DemKota Ranch Beef Plant, there have been 151 recoveries.

Minnehaha County had 13 new cases raising its total to 3,526 confirmed cases, Beadle County had four new cases bringing its total to 476 confirmed cases, and Pennington County added seven new cases to increase its total to 437. Lincoln County has had 278 confirmed cases and Union County 114.

A total of 18,427 individuals have been tested at the state’s nursing home and assisted living centers. That number includes both residents and staff. Of that, 49 residents and 33 staff have tested positive.
