State sees jump in hospitalizations, no new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – South Dakota saw a jump of 15 in the number of COVID-related hospitalizations in totals announced by the State Department of Health today. The state now has 98 individuals hospitalized in connection with the virus, the highest since June. The peak was 106 on May 26.

The state also saw an increase in active infections with 283 new confirmed cases and 224 new recoveries, leaving the amount of active cases at 2,515 (there were 3,032 one week ago). The state’s death total remained at 177.

So far, South Dakota has had 16,117 confirmed cases and 13,425 recoveries.

Locally, Brown County saw a slight increase in active infections with 18 new confirmed cases and 15 new recoveries, moving the active cases to 177. In all, the county has had 889 confirmed cases and 709 recoveries. There have been three total COVID-related deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 5,772 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 1,731, and Lincoln County with 1,046. Other counties totals include Beadle with 657, Brookings with 567, Codington with 534, and Clay with 490.
