State sees record highs in confirmed and active cases, hospitalizations

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state saw a spike of 445 new confirmed COVID cases today (a new record high) along with 154 new recoveries according to numbers released by the South Dakota Department of Health. There were no new deaths. The state’s number of active infections is currently at a record of 3,108 (there were 2,442 one week ago). The COVID-related death total remained at 202.

South Dakota has had 19,634 total confirmed cases along with 16,324 recoveries. There are currently 192 people hospitalized in association with the virus, also a new high since the pandemic began.

Locally, Brown County had 15 new cases and 5 new recoveries, increasing the amount of active infections to 145. So far, the county has had 1,067 total cases and 919 recoveries. There have been three COVID-related deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 6,383 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 2,091, and Lincoln County with 1,251. Other counties totals include Codington with 757, Beadle with 723, Brookings with 704, and Clay with 540.
