State set new record for single-day cases, adds three more deaths

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – South Dakota set a record for new COVID-19 cases in a single day with 876 according to numbers released by the State Department of Health today. There were also three new deaths – in Codington, Douglas, and Pennington counties – raising the overall number of COVID-related deaths to 291. The state also had 313 new recoveries. South Dakota currently has a record total of 6,604 active cases (there were 4,511 one week ago).

The state has had 30,215 total confirmed cases and 23,320 recoveries. There are currently 303 people hospitalized in association with the virus.

Locally, Brown County reported 33 new cases and 20 recoveries, increasing the amount of active infections to 306. The county has had 1,626 total confirmed cases, 1,316 recoveries, and there have been four COVID-related deaths.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 8,397 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 3,292, and Lincoln County with 1,976. Other counties totals include Codington with 1,151, Brookings with 1,051, Beadle with 994, Meade with 737, Clay with 667, and Hughes with 667.
