State sets record for COVID hospitalizations, adds eight more deaths

ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state’s active COVID-19 infections increased by 50, there were eight new deaths, and hospitalizations connected to the virus set an all-time high with 480 according to totals released by the South Dakota Department of Health. The state now has 13,367 active cases (there were 11,188 one week ago).

One day after hospitalizations dropped by 19, they soared by 78 today (the largest one day total since the pandemic began). The state’s COVID-related death toll stands at 446.

So far, South Dakota has had 48,854 confirmed cases and 35,041 total recoveries.

Locally, Brown County had 39 new cases and 30 new recoveries, increasing the amount of active infections to 482. In all, the county has had 2,313 confirmed cases and 1,825 total recoveries.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 12,985 confirmed cases, followed by Pennington County with 5,049, and Lincoln County with 3,292. Other counties totals include Codington with 1,735, Brookings with 1,590, Beadle with 1,434, Davison with 1,189, Lawrence with 1,115, Oglala Lakota with 1,089, and Bon Homme with 1,086.
