PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state’s number of active COVID cases dropped by more than 200 and there were no new deaths according to totals released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The state had 103 new cases and 316 new recoveries, lowering the active infections to 2,679 (there were 2,750 one week ago). The number of COVID-related deaths remained at 173.
In all, South Dakota has had 15,403 confirmed cases, 12,551 recoveries, and there are 68 people currently hospitalized because of the virus.
Locally, Brown County had nine new cases and 15 new recoveries, dropping the amount of active infections to 176. The county has had 838 total cases, 659 recoveries, and three deaths.
Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 5,625 overall cases, followed by Pennington County with 1,642, and Lincoln County with 1,007. Other county’s totals include Beadle with 647, Brookings with 534, Codington with 468, and Clay with 464.
There are currently 452 cases in K-12 schools (297 students and 155 staff), and 842 cases in colleges and universities (806 students and 36 staff).
