Study shows South Dakota 3rd most prone state for mosquitoes

MITCHELL, S.D.(KMIT)- Although gnats have been more of a problem so far this summer in our region, a new study shows that South Dakota is the #3 most-mosquito prone state.  Emily Thornton says the study was done by Insurank.com.

South Dakota ranked third behind Louisiana and Florida, two states often thought of as being mosquito-prone .  Thornton talks about the factors that pushed South Dakota toward the top.

She says one factor where South Dakota was high is controllable, and that is the number of West Nile Virus cases.

There are 43 different species of mosquito in South Dakota.  The study’s results can be found at www.insurank.com.
