Sturgis City Council approve ambulance service for Buffalo Chip Campground for the motorcycle rally

STURGIS, S.D.(KBHB) – The Sturgis Council voted 6-1 Monday night to adjust their ambulance service area to allow for the Sturgis Ambulance Service to include the Buffalo Chip Campground for the upcoming Motorcycle Rally.

Campground owner Rod Woodruff issued the request to the Rural Meade Ambulance District, which in turn, went to the city council.

Sturgis City Manager Daniel Ainslie says because the Rural Meade Ambulance Service contracts with the city of Sturgis, the council needed to approve the change in their ambulance service area map.

All this follows the formation of the district and an earlier request to opt out by the campground.

The district was formed by rural citizens to help the city of Sturgis pay for ambulance to the rural areas. The district decided to set up a contract with the Sturgis Ambulance Service to continue with their services rather than start one of their own.

The district will need to work with the Buffalo Chip to determine a cost.
