Sturgis Police increasing patrol in hopes of curbing burglaries

STURGIS, S.D. (KBHB) – Sturgis Police are increasing saturation patrols in hopes of curbing a string of burglaries that have been reported this month.

Police Chief Geody VanDewater says at least five businesses have been broken into, as well as numerous homes and garages around town.

He says a recent burglary involved the theft of some expensive construction-related tools.

As for suspects, VanDewater says they have been in contact with a person of interest and a juvenile has been apprehended in connection with some vehicle thefts.

However, he says the investigation continues, and he’s urging people to take some precautions.

VanDewater also says lock your cars and doors, and never leave valuables inside of your vehicle. Like Rapid City, Sturgis has also had its share of firearms being stolen out of cars.

And report anything suspicious.

VanDewater says officers are performing more saturation patrols in the wake of the increased number of burglaries.
