Summer study on county funding to meek July 12th

MITCHELL, S.D.(KMIT)- Around 15 counties in South Dakota are on the verge of bankruptcy, with many other counties struggling fiscally.  A legislative task force is meeting and trying to find ways to ease financial burdens on county governments.  The group met last month in Pierre.  Davison County Commissioner John Claggett was in attendance.

The topic was briefly discussed at last week’s Davison County Commission meeting.  Commissioner Randy Reider (rider) expressed concern.

Claggett remains hopeful that some solutions can be found.

Claggett was the only county commissioner in the state who attended the county study meeting in June.  The summer study group is set to meet again on July 12th in Pierre.
