Supreme Court Chief Justice Jensen gives inaugural State of Judiciary address

PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – South Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice Steven Jensen gave his inaugural State of the Judiciary address to a joint session of the South Dakota Legislature Wednesday. Jensen replaced Chief Justice David Gilbertson and started his address recognizing the time Gilbertson spent on the Supreme Court.

Jensen asked lawmakers to consider much needed pay increases for the state’s judges.

Jensen also encouraged legislators to consider approving funding for a new court position designed to address court security concerns.

Jensen is also asking the legislature to fund more clerk of court positions, specifically in Minnehaha and Lincoln Counties.
