Survey shows Community Bankers have little confidence on the strength of the economy

OMAHA, N.E.(KELO)- Community Bankers across the region have little confidence in the strength of the economy in coming months.

That’s among the findings of a survey of bankers in our ten-state region by Creighton University.

They’re also concerned about policies backed by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen that would encourage bank mergers and acquisitions.

Economics Professor Ernie Goss says it’s reminiscent of the financial crisis of 2008.

Most of those banks were small community banks who have a close connection with the farmers and businesses in their locations.

Three-fourths of the bankers in the survey say losing community banks to mergers will hurt the farm community.
