RAPID CITY, S.D. (KBHB) — The highway patrol, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rapid City Police and Meade County Sheriff’s Office were all involved in a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle Monday morning.
The pursuit ended when the stolen vehicle became disabled after hitting a building in Rapid City.
Highway Patrol spokesman Tony Mangan says the incident began around 6:17 Monday morning as officers became aware of a high speed pursuit involving a stolen pickup truck.
The Meade County Sheriff’s department had requested assistance from the highway patrol in a pursuit of the Ford F-350 pickup near mile marker 47 on Interstate 90.
The pursuit continued south on Sturgis Road, going in to Rapid City. During the pursuit, the vehicle sideswiped another vehicle in Rapid City while weaving in and out of traffic.
The pursuit was terminated in the area of W. Main Street and Ninth Street when the vehicle collided with a building. The driver then fled the scene.
A search for the suspect continues.
