Task force continuing to monitor changes in assessments, valuations

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – When the South Dakota legislature made major changes to how property taxes were assessed on ag land, they also created the Ag Land Assessment Task Force to monitor the recommend changes to the process.

Senator Craig Kennedy of Yankton has been a member of that task force during his time in Pierre. He says they have continued to monitor the ongoing changes in assessments and valuations.

Kennedy says they have struggled in areas where croplands and grasslands mix.

Kennedy says they made a change last year that provided more guidelines to county assessors.

Kennedy did not run for reelection this year and will be leaving the legislature at the end of the month.
